Is MM2H necessary to have if I am buying a residence in Johor?

Not at all. There are many people who buy weekend homes, or houses and apartments as investments and rarely stay over.

MM2H is a good option for those who are looking to stay for long periods with no intention of going back to Singapore during that time with Malaysia as the main base. And there are many who choose to stay here when the weather in the home country is less salubrious ... and that does not always mean Winter, since some people really love their Winters.

Before we applied for this visa we moved over and then came and went to Singapore as many as six times a week with no hassle. In a whole year we were only asked once why we traveled so frequently into Malaysia. When we answered mildly that we were building a house here, there were no further questions.

But that having been said, we felt that we wanted to demonstrate our commitment to staying in this country plus have that security quid pro quo since a substantial deposit is in a Malaysian bank.
