Who am I?

My name is Denyse Tessensohn, almost retired and 62 years old. I graduated in Law from the National University of Singapore with an Ll.B. (Hons), and practised law for eight years. I have a Masters in Applied Linguistics (NIE) and another Masters in History (NUS).

In 1987 I obtained an LTCL (Licentiate) in Teaching English as a Second Language. My specialties are in Phonetics and improved Spoken English and I have taught these at the National Institute of Education (the Use of English in Teaching programme to new teachers) and intensive English classes to Chinese nationals coming to Singapore as undergraduates at NUS; in secondary schools - RI, RGS, Cedar Girls, Hai Sing Hai and another 25 schools both premier and neighbourhood, to Gifted Education pupils, those in the Express stream and the Normal Academic and Technical streams.

Once a year I am available to do ‘national service’ and teach at the ITE preparing some of the students for the Spoken English component of the 'O' Levels examination.

Currently I teach Phonetics and improved spoken English regionally. My particular interests are in language, Eurasiana and history. I speak some Malay, Cantonese, and a smattering of other languages. An Eurasian whose family came to Singapore in 1843, I am married to an artist and have two grown sons.
